This special week-long art holiday workshop has been designed for those who want to learn new skills and take their art work to a new level.   The course is open to those who have a little knowledge of painting, through to advanced painters

THE ARTIST'S EYE

The first course day will be spent with Matt Kemp , award-winning, internationally renowned photographer who will teach his exclusive to Sydney Art Holidays photography course for smartphones.

Whether you are plein-air painting or working in a studio, all great artists need to capture the moment.  And that means capturing your subject on your canvas and also on your camera.  These days, we travel light and we have camera's right with us, every day.  Yes our smartphones!

We at Sydney Art Holidays believe that all painters need to be able to take a great snap.  For those moments when you see the exact thing you want to paint but you just can't stop, you are somewhere you will never get back to to, or when you are out painting with clouds looming.  You can't stop nature turning your sunny day into a rainy one, but you can capture the moment you need to continue your piece.  But moreso how can you take away from your environment a great mood or tone? How can you enhance your surroundings to pick out the best of what is around you to inform a better painting?

Matt will take us into the field, around beautiful Manly and it's varying landscapes to show us what the camera sees and to teach us how to use features most people don't even know exist on their phone cameras.  He will show us how to apply professional photography techniques and build our skills to ensure that every photo is a great photo.

Matt will takes us through composition, using light for dramatic effect, in camera editing, apps, how to really make our photos pop and produce vibrant, creative and consistently good images with these wonderfully transportable,  flexible smartphone cameras. You'll leave the course an expert in smartphone photography, its accessories and apps as well as a new found skill and love of the art of photography.

THE BEAUTY OF WATERCOLOUR

The beauty of the watercolour painting - it's translucency, fluidity and uniqueness has been used since man began painting and yet, it's attraction to the eye has never diminished.  People often describe watercolour painting as the most difficult to master of all the mediums, but we at Sydney Art Holidays think differently - especially when you have a master such as Joseph Zbukvic  teaching.

We will spend four wonderful days of painting with Joseph, internationally renowned artist and tutor who exhibits and teachers around the world.

Joseph will share his knowledge in composition, choosing subject matter - what to keep in, what to take out of your painting, how to capture the moment, capture and reflect light, how to make your work luminous, brush techniques, pigment characteristics and paint textures.  Everything you need to create a wonderful painting.

Joseph will hold painting demonstrations, give group and individual attention and will truly impart to students how to make their work instinctive and compelling.  We will be painting both in classroom and on location (weather permitting).

At the end of the week students will exhibit their masterpieces at our informal art exhibition!
